Blaze9: It looks to me like sora can bearly carry the keyblade. In combat he holds it down to the floor and in non-combat he has to carry it over his shoulder.

twilight_dragon: It's because in combat, you're swinging the blade around wildly which can strain your muscles. He rests it on his shoulder so he wouldn't be straining his arm from carrying it with just his hand. Just think of carrying aurons sword. would you carry it as if it was a stick? No, you would rest it on your shoulder because it's easier.
