2) Try to "Flow" everything, as in.. if your making it look glossy, use only 1 direction. k?
3) Most nice web templates/layouts have a nice plain background with a pattern embedded in them
4) Try not to stroke text, and make sure that your text's AA is set to 'smooth' (top bar)
